Project 365

I decided yesterday(August 28th 2014) to embark on a project or an experiment of sorts. I want to  see how many products I can use up in one year. At last count ( as of August 28th 2014) I own 445 cosmetic/ personal care products(Far more than anyone really needs). Each month I will update you with how many items were used up and then I will break it down by category.  I think this will be an eye opening experiment for myself to see how much I actually use (need) in one year. Between yesterday and today I completed two products so technically as I write this post I am down to 443. I invite anyone to who wishes to join in Project 365!  I believe this will be super helpful in determining / demonstrating what one person actually needs in one year of their life. All too often we buy the latest "it" product only to completely forget about it a mere 2 weeks, or a few months later! Let me know in the comments if you feel you have too much stuff!

#NoBuySeptember

After watching @thegirlinspired ‘s July Favourites and spending a little more than I had hoped on gluten free replacement lipstick to feed my lipstick addiction I decided it was time to get my spending in check. This September I have decided to embark on my own “No Buy” (It’s fast approaching ahhhh!!!).  While reading @thegirlinspired’s blog, I especially thought keeping track weekly of her struggles via her blog as well as keeping track of the savings was ingenious and motivational! As such, I will be taking her lead when embarking on my own “No Buy” this September.

Let the challenge begin!    ...    I am already seeing some obstacles up ahead! With fall fast approaching avoiding purchases will be the ultimate struggle. Did I mention Fall is my favourite season for weather, makeup and fashion. God help me! If you follow me on my YouTube channel you will also know I have just begun a Project 10 Pan so feel free to SUBSCRIBE and follow me on there as well.  You will also probably have gathered from there that I have enough backups and products to likely get me through a Zombie Apocalypse. If the internet beauty community was on Walking Dead we would all look fabulous because we have too much darn stuff. Meanwhile the “Normal” people would be without even a stitch on mascara. But I am going off on a tangent---Back to #NoBuySeptember

Each week I will update you all with my weekly cravings, struggles and of course savings! As I am writing this…I have decided to begin this a tad early …a test run… if you will before the big SHA-BANG...just because I am crazy like that. So on that note let us get into it right away!

Time Period: NOW!

Cravings:
Red Apple Lipstick in Paris, Hibiskiss, Fierce ($23.50 each or buy two get one half off)
Red Apple Lipliner in Roseberry, Almost Red and Blush. ($22.90 each) Add a Ralley Balm and exfoliate stick for 15$ ?...Umm Yes!

Savings:
 144.45 $ (Including 12$ Shipping)

If you're planning on doing #NoBuySeptember or if you have any tips for staying strong, be sure to share in the comments!

Project 10 Pan #1: Update 1

I have made it past the first week! This project as you will recall began on Thursday, August 7th 2014. This is my second update on my project. I chose 11 products. Before the project is complete I must finish 10 of the 11 products. After the first week I already finished 2 products. Let recap on what was left to finish after last week:

Products Complete from August 7th - August 14th
1. Mane and Tail and Body Shampoo

2. Nexxus Pro Mend

3. Korres Wild Rose Mineral Setting Powder

4. Garnier Ultra Lift Anti Wrinkle Eye  Roller

5.Biotherm - Blue Therapy Serum

6.Caudalie - Beauty Elixer

7.Shea Terra - Rose Hips & Carrot Perfecting Serum

8. Shea Terra - Argan & Green Coffee Eye Serum

9. Sibu Beauty - Sea Buckthron Seed Oil

 Progress this week:

This week I made some decent progress. Currently I have finished 2/11 products.
I used every product at least once during this past week. Of the products that I did NOT finish I made a list ranking the products from most used during the week to least used during the week (1 being the most used):

1.Garnier Ultra Lift Anti Wrinkle Eye Roller
2.Korres Wild Rose Mineral Setting Powder
3.Biotherm - Blue Therapy Serum
4.Caudalie - Beauty Elixer
5.Mane and Tail and Body Shampoo
6.Sibu Beauty - Sea Buckthron Seed Oil
7.Shea Terra - Argan & Green Coffee Eye Serum
8.Shea Terra - Rose Hips & Carrot Perfecting Serum
9.Nexxus Pro Mend

Prediction for the next product I'll finish:

Korres Wild Rose Mineral Setting Powder & Shea Terra - Argan and Green Coffee Eye Serum

Finished Products:

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer

Repurchase: Maybe - I do love this product, it conceals and brightens beautifully---HOWEVER I am in the market for a more natural product that will hopefully work the same! (Leave me a comment if you have a natural concealer to recommend for use under the eyes)If I can't find myself a natural replacement I may purchase this one again.

Stash Replacement: I have another Maybelline Dream Lumi TouchConcealer still to use up so I will be working on that next!

Bath and Body Works True Blue Spa  Glycolic Acid Cracked Heal Treatment

Repurchase: No - Worked OK but the ingredients are HORRIBLE. Also the product makes your skin sun sensitive. I much prefer the Badger Foot Balm It's works better and it is natural.

Stash Replacement: The Badger Foot Balm is what I will be working on next!

Product "Death Count":

2

- Bath and Body Works True Blue Spa  Glycolic Acid Cracked Heal Treatment
- Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer

Overall I am pretty happy with my progress. I have made no purchases, finished 2 products already and I am aiming to "go in for the kill" on two more in the coming weeks. So far I haven't had any serious makeup cravings. I am hoping to finish these products by the end of August which may be a little ambitious...but only time will tell. Please leave me links to your project pan videos for motivation. I will need it to complete this project. ALSO if you have any project pan tips please share them with the rest of us!

Are you doing a project pan? Tell me about it in the comments!

The Body Reset Diet

A month or two ago I heard about the Body Reset Diet through my boyfriends mother. She had made me the apple pie smoothie one morning from the book for breakfast and it was delicious. More recently I have gained weight from going on a gluten free diet due to Celiac's and I'm now looking to lose some weight. Did I mention that it is hilarious that there are trend  following hipsters out there that think they WILL 100%  lose weight by going gluten free?...Well they may be sorrily mistaken as lots of gluten free foods(gf pasta's, cookies, breads etc) actually have a higher caloric intake and less nutrients than their gluten containing counterparts. Anyways,  enough of me being bitter about the whole Celiac restrictive diet  thing. BACK TO THE DIET....In an effort to lose weight I will be beginning this diet on Saturday August 23rd 2014. This diet  consists of 3 phases, each lasting 5 days. The final phase is how you should be eating the rest of your life. Pasternak *as part of the diet plan) requires you to take 10,000 steps a day. I will be doing updates after each stage to remark on the diets effectiveness and how easy the diet is to stick to each week. I will keep a daily food(smoothie) journal, step and weight journal.  I will also remark on the smoothies I try. So far I recommend the Apple Pie smoothie which I made twice this week already.Weight each day will be collected first thing each morning.

PHASE I

Starting this Saturday I will be beginning Phase I of the diet . During Phase I you are allowed 3 smoothies a day and two crunchy snacks. Each day you are to eat a Red, Green and White smoothie. The smoothies are high in protein and contain all the nutrients your body needs to feel full during the kickstart phase according to Pasternak.

Anticipated Start Date: August 23rd 2014

Project 10 Pan

What is Project Pan?

Project 10 Pan is where the participant chooses 10 (or more) products to finish up before they purchase anything else. This is often done to get use out of products the participant spent money on or to simply just get the items out of there collection they no longer love, or that are almost finished and are currently just taking up valuable real estate in there bathrooms, rooms, vanity ..etc. Project Pan is also commonly used as a way to curb spending.

Why am I doing Project Pan?

My #1 reason for doing project pan is to curb spending.Lately I have been spending more than I would like to. I do not have much money coming in right now and need to spend as little as possible

My close #2 reason is I need to downsize my makeup collection. The amount of products I have has been starting to get overwhelming in the past year and a half. In certain item categories I likely could go a year without needing to repurchase something. By doing project pan it will curb my spending and prevent me from furthering the problem. During this project 10 pan I am aiming to remove a lot of products I just don’t really love anymore while preventing myself from purchasing new items.

My Spin on Project 10 Pan…

As you may have noticed I chose 11 products. As I explained in my Project 10 Pan video I chose 11 but I will only have to finish 10 of the 11 before I call the project complete. Some of the items I chose were more difficult than others so it will be interesting to see which 10 products get finished first.

As you have seen I have selected products from a variety of categories. Once I finish a product I will sub in another product from that category to work on. The result may be that during the course of my Project10Pan I may finish more than 10 products. However the idea here is that my project 10 pan will not be complete until I finish 10 of my original project 10 pan items.

The Products:

Started: August 7th 2014

I will be doing weekly updates so stay tuned and subscribe to this blog. I will also be doing updates on my YouTube Channel:
